Let us hold the U.S. Bishops in prayer as they meet in Baltimore November 12-15.
*****

It is in relationships - with Christ, with others, in the community - that faith is transmitted. Also in view of the mission, the Church is called to assume a relational face that focuses on listening, welcoming, dialogue, common discernment in a process that transforms the lives of those who participate in it.

For the first time, AUSCP will participate in #GivingTuesday this year. In response to the onslaught of Christmas sales enticing buyers to spend, #GivingTuesday is designed to inspire donations to worthwhile causes. As a nonprofit, AUSCP is eligible for matching funds when donations are given online on the AUSCP Facebook page on November 27th. New Endeavor of AUSCP: Assembly to Action
Last week a special bulletin was sent out on the topic of "Eradicating Racism," authored by Leadership Chair Bob Bonnot. This represents a new endeavor by AUSCP called "Assembly to Action" to inform, inspire, and invite action on issues that have been determined priorities by the AUSCP Assembly. Too often, great goals and resolutions are approved at the annual Assembly and then quickly forgotten. To help with follow-up
and implementation of the Assembly proposals, the Leadership Team hopes to publish occasional issues of "Assembly to Action." You are encouraged to share these issues with your bishops, friends, and parishioners. If you need a printable copy, contact the AUSCP office.
If you would like to volunteer to be an author of a future issue, please notify the office at: office@uscatholicpriests.org.
Invitation from Gospel Nonviolence Working Group
By popular demand Fr. Harry Bury has been re-scheduled for an online/phone Conference Tuesday, Nov 20th, 3:30 to 4:30 pm Eastern Time. It will let us compare our own attempts to LIVE Gospel Nonviolence (GNV) with Harry’s as written up in his memoir: Maverick Priest, (2018 from Amazon for $12.) A question to begin our sharing could be: Does a commitment to GNV de facto disqualify a priest as pastor or vicar, or a lay minister as a pastoral associate in today’s church? Bring your own question for this AUSCP
member, now an 88 year old sage.

St. John XXIII Award Nominees for 2019
The AUSCP Leadership Team is calling for nominations from our members for the Pope Saint John XXIII award to be presented at the 2019 Assembly in St. Louis. This award is given to someone in the Church who has given exceptional witness to promoting the vision of the Second Vatican Council.
Please submit name and contact information, along with three reasons why he or she should be considered. Nominee must be present at the Assembly to accept the reward. Send your nomination to: office@uscatholicpriests.org.
The deadline for submitting names is November 26, 2018.
Synod on Youth
The document which was produced by the October Synod has many meaningful sections. Here are a few notable quotes:
13. We cannot forget the difference between men and women with their peculiar gifts, the specific sensibilities and experiences of the world. This difference can be an area in which forms of domination, exclusion and discrimination arise from which all societies and the Church itself need to free themselves.
The Bible presents man and woman as equal partners before God (see Gn 5:2): all domination and discrimination based on sex offends human dignity. It also presents the difference between the sexes as a mystery so constitutive of the human being as irreducible to stereotypes. The relationship between man and woman is then understood in terms of a vocation to live together in reciprocity and in dialogue, in communion and in fruitfulness (see Gn 1,27-29; 2,21-25) in all areas of human experience: the life of couples, work, education and more.
God has entrusted the earth to their covenant.
121. ...Synodality characterizes both the life and mission of the Church, which is the People of God formed by young and old, men and women of every culture and horizon, and the Body of Christ, in which we are members of one another, starting with those who are marginalized and trampled underfoot. In the course of the exchanges and through the testimonies, the Synod has brought out some fundamental traits of a synodal style, towards which we are called to
convert.

Commentary on Church
AUSCP member Bill Stenzel of Chicago wrote a commentary which was recently published in the Chicago Tribune. Referring to the sex abuse scandal, he stated, We have much work to do. We must reform how our church is governed. And we must replace anyone who has allowed the wounding to continue again and again and again. As we move to rescue our church and
embrace those victims, I hope we all feel the tears.

Workers' Rights
Unite Here and organizers of the Marriott workers' strike are asking your support by signing a Pledge to tell the largest hotel chain globally that “one job should be enough to raise a family, pay the bills, and retire with dignity.”

Annual Appeal
The Annual Appeal is off and running. Thus far we have received donations from 145 donors with a total of $22,685. This is a great start!
Our goal for this year's appeal is to receive donations from 350 donors for a grand total of $100,000. This would represent a 40 percent increase over last year's appeal and would enable the AUSCP to move forward with plans to reach every priest in the U.S. with our message of hope and joy. Please consider making an online donation on #GivingTuesday, November 27th, when all donations made through the AUSCP Facebook page will be matched. Thank you!
If you have friends you would like to invite to support the AUSCP, copies of the appeal letter are available upon request: office@uscatholicpriests.org
How to Reduce Your 2019 Assembly Cost by $200
If you reserve your hotel room soon for the June Assembly in St. Louis, you will see an offer for a Marriott Credit Card. If you do not currently, or within the last 2 years, have a Marriott Credit Card, you can apply for one now and get a $200 credit on the card IF you make a purchase within 3 months. Once you have the card you could register for the Assembly, and $200 of that $495 fee will be covered by your credit! (You also get 2 free nights at a Marriott hotel IF you charge $3000 on your Marriott Card within 3 months of getting
it.)
For the first year there is no fee; in the second year, a fee of $95. Such offers typically allow cancellation of the card before the renewal date, so you could avoid the $95 fee for the second year if you wish. This card option is likely available until near Christmas. Be sure to look at the conditions. If it makes sense to you, AUSCP's
2019 Assembly will be yours at significantly reduced cost.
In Christ with Hope, Joy & all Blessings,
Bob Bonnot, AUSCP, Leadership Team Chair
