God, Meet us at the Wells

God: Meet us at the wells where we are lonely, where we are forgotten, where we are hurt by others,

and give us to drink of the grace that brings life again.

God: Speak to us in the trysting places where sinners gather, where the prejudices are made known, where our histories are broadcast,

and give us to drink of the forgiveness that brings peace again.

God: Renew all that we are and have been, fill us with a future, inspire us with recreation, pull us into resurrection,

and give us to drink of the promise of heaven.

Assembly Plans & Coronavirus

Because of the Corona/Covid 19 virus, some are questioning if AUSCP should go ahead with plans for the 2020 Assembly at the Maritime Conference Center in June. Frank Eckart, our hotel liaison, is in touch with the MCC. They are monitoring the situation and advise that we wait until sometime in April to make a decision. At the present time, plans are moving forward. Airlines seem to be accomodating changes and cancellations.

Seamless Garment

Daniel Horan, ofm, wrote an article in NCR (Feb, 19) titled "Integral ecology requires a larger 'seamless garment'." He cited Laudato Si', saying: "Given that Laudato Si' is officially part of the church's social teaching, its insights and lessons have bearing on how we view social order, politics, scientific inquiry, theological reflection and moral norms. To talk about an integral ecology in this light is to reiterate the interconnectedness of all human persons to one another and our inextricable place within a singular cosmic web of creation.

…Not only does "pro-life" mean embracing the seamless garment, but it also requires that our concern for and protection of life be shaped by an integral ecology, which recognizes that "everything is connected" and nothing is meant to be treated in isolation."  You can access his article HERE.

 50th Anniversary of Earth Day

& 5th Anniversary of Laudato Si'

The 50th anniversary of Earth Day is on April 22, 2020, and the 5th anniversary of Laudato Si’ will be marked during Laudato Si’ week, May 16-May 24. The Catholic Climate Covenant is happy to provide useful resources to assist in planning celebrations of these anniversaries:

Call for Leadership Team Nominations

We are approaching the time for this year’s elections to the AUSCP Leadership Team (LT). The elections will take place at the Annual Assembly, June 22-25, at the Maritime Conference Center in Linthicum, Maryland (near BWI). Four present LT members are completing three-year terms. Two of them will not run for re-election: Lee Bacchi and Bill Spilly. We thank them for their generous service these past three years.

Aidan McAleenan and Tulio Ramirez will run for re-election to a second term. Also, Norm Supancheck, who has served as an appointed member of the LT this past year, will run for election to a three-year term.

We welcome diversity in all areas - age, race, ethnicity, diocese, etc. Please consider your gifts and see if they match what is needed to serve on the Leadership Team. Nominations should be submitted by April 15, 2020. Nomination forms are available from: office@auscp.org.

In Memoriam: Friend & Benefactor

Norbert Dickman of Midland, Texas (age 77), an AUSCP Friend and generous benefactor, died of leukemia on March 11th. According the local newspapers, he was known as a kind, humble, community-minded and hard-working person who was respected by everyone. He was named Mr. South Texas in 2016, one of the highest honors for people who have made a “significant and lasting contribution” to the growth and development of Laredo and South Texas. Norbert was the general manager of Fasken Oil and Ranch since 1988.

Having sudied in the seminary at the same time as Bob Bonnot, AUSCP Executive Director, Norbert was keenly interested in the work of AUSCP. He attended the AUSCP Assembly in 2018 and 2019.

May Norbert rest in God's eternal love.

Leadership Roundtable

The Leadership Roundtable's recent Catholic Partnership Summit brought together more than 260 Catholics - laity, religious women, priests, and bishops - to discuss some of the important questions that face the Church today.

According to Tom Roberts, (NCR 3/11), "No event planner could have orchestrated a scene that better explains the state of the church in the United States at this moment than the recent tableau that unfolded in a large ballroom in the Fairmont Hotel in Washington, D.C." To read about this event, click HERE

Status of Annual Appeal

The Annual Appeal is the main source of income for the AUSCP! This year's goal is $150,000 from 450 donors. Thus far we have received $136,500 from 411 donors. Thank you!! The goal is in sight! Help us reach it!

We need the support of all who believe in furthering the spirit of Vatican II and the agenda of Pope Francis. Thank you for whatever you are able to give!

Donate online at the AUSCP website or send a check to: AUSCP, 200 St. Francis Avenue, Tiffin, OH 44883-3458.

Assembly Discount Deadline is Near!

If you register for the 2020 AUSCP Assembly by check before March 31st, you can receive a discount of $16. Send your check to: AUSCP, 200 St. Francis Ave., Tiffin, OH 44883-3458.

The number of rooms reserved for the AUSCP is limited to 165, and we hope to have 300 participants, so you are encouraged to partner and share a double room which saves you $150. All room reservations will be processed through the AUSCP office to simplify the registration process.

After you register online or send a check for Assembly registration, you will need to notify Sr. Jackie (office@auscp.org) if you need a room any nights in addition to June 22,23,24, and which type: single, double, or handicapped. For doubles, be sure to indicate who is sharing the room with you. For questions, call the AUSCP office: 872-205-5862.

2020 Assembly Special

AUSCP members are asked to help spread the word and encourage non-members, as well as members who have never attended an Assembly, to participate in the 2020 Assembly in June. To encourage this, the AUSCP is offering the following special rates:

  • If an AUSCP member recruits a non-member, or a member who has never attended an Assembly, and pays $100 of their registration fee, the AUSCP will match that and also pay $100, so the new attendee will get a $200 discount on their registration fee.

This will need to be done by check because the online registration does not offer this option.  For questions, call the AUSCP office at 872-205-5862.
