Shelter Me

1. Sheperd and sheep, my God and I: to fresh green fields you led my steps in days gone by. You gave me rest by quiet springs and filled my soul with peace your loving presence brings.

Refrain: O shelter me, O shelter me: the way ahead is dark and difficult to see. O shelter me, O shelter me: all will be well if only you will shelter me.

2. Yet now I tread a diff'rent way; death dogs my path with stealthy steps from day to day. I cannot find your peaceful place but dwell in dreary darkness, longing for your face.

Refrain

3. I will look back in days to come and realize your faithfulness has led me home. Within your house I'll find my peace, trusting that in your mercy you have sheltered me.

Refrain

Hymn Inspired by Coronavirus Pandemic

AUSCP Member Fr. Michael Joncas wanted to provide comfort and hope to those affected by the coronavirus. He felt inspired to write a hymn based on Psalm 23, titled “Shelter Me.” He said he woke up in the middle of the night March 25 with a “nagging idea.”  “What popped up was, maybe there is a way to pray about this that also involves song and that would touch people at a different level,” he said.

While it typically takes him several weeks to a month to compose a hymn, his latest one took only about seven hours. He has given permission for it to be used freely. You can read more about it HERE.

The first text message was sent on May 8th, If you did not receive it, we probably do not have your cell phone number. Please send it to office@auscp.org

Thanks for your continued cooperation and support of AUSCP! This will assist us in our efforts to keep in touch with you.

Annual Appeal Closes with All Goals Met!

The AUSCP Annual Appeal began October 1, 2019 and ran through April 30, 2020. This is the main source of revenue for AUSCP operating funds.

This year's goal was $150,000 from 450 donors. We are happy to announce that these goals have been exceeded. We have received $167,000 from 480 donors. Thank you to all who helped us reach our goals!!

The promise of matching funds of up to $5,000 for donations April 15-30, brought in over 7,000 to help us reach this level.

 Invitation to Information Session

On Thursday, May 14, at 3pm Eastern, Dr. Tim Muldoon of Catholic Extension will offer a webinar about the organization’s Mission Immersion Program, a grant-funded initiative that invites priests from more well-resourced dioceses to experience the Church’s vital ministries in poorer dioceses.

Participants travel in small groups to meet migrant farm workers, priests and religious sisters working in shelters, and families who depend on the Church for social and emotional support, just to name a few examples. Come learn about some of the best stories of our Church in the U.S. in these fully funded three-day immersion experiences. Over the past two years, over 85 participants from 17 dioceses have joined Catholic Extension, which has supported the poor Church in the United States since 1905.

 Join the Zoom meeting here:

Thu May 14, 2020 3pm – 3:30pm Eastern time

In Memoriam

Regina Cleri Retirement Home for priests in the Archdiocese of St. Louis has been hard hit by the COVID-19 virus. Twenty-eight of its thirty-one residents have tested positive and three have died.

AUSCP member Msgr. Nicholas Schneider (Ordained 1956), age 89, is one of the victims. He died on May 5th. Msgr. Schneider wrote biographies of two cardinals who led the Archdiocese of St. Louis, Cardinals Joseph E. Ritter and John J. Carberry; he also wrote a book on Cardinal John J. Glennon.

Please pray for eternal rest for all of those who have died from this pandemic, for all who are still suffering, and for all who are grieving losses.

Book Recommendation

I would like to recommend a book I just read to the membership. It is called THE EUCHARIST by Thomas O”Loughlin from Nottingham England . It was an eye opener for me about how far we have gotten off the original significance of  our celebrations and the need to do a lot of work to get back on track. This time of  crisis might be an opportunity though to at least begin necessary reform and rethinking by us priests. Thanks. - Tom Shea, csc
